Beat the Heat | Off Street Drag Racing 14 May 2010

From the HVDRA Media Release

Czernaiwski & Darrach Take Out Sorensen Memorial

58 teams paid respect to the late Beat the Heat crew chief, John Sorensen on Friday night at Hidden Valley Drag Strip as part of the Hogs Breath Cafe John Sorensen Memorial.

The Hogs Breath Mini Eliminator provided some action packed racing with competitors vying for the Sorensen Memorial Trophy. It was an all Holden affair for the finals with Bob Czernaiwski in a Holden VX SS Commodore taking on Shaun Boyer in a Holden Gemini. Czernaiwski ran a 13.732 on a 13.70 second dialin to defeat Boyer. Shane Munt finished third after defeating Mitchell Doyle.

In the bikes Leith Darrach defeated Stewart Campbell’s Yamaha R6 by the narrowest of margins. Darrach’s 0.2sec faster reaction allowed him to carry the lead through to the finish where he ended with a 12.083 on a 12.0 second dialin. Josh Schuit was too good for Buell rider Terry Palmer and took out third place.

The fastest reaction of the night in a car went to Keelan Peck in the Pecky's Performance centre Ford XR6 Turbo with a 0.414 second reaction, while Brandt McGlade managed a 0.425 second reaction on his 2009 Harley Davidson, both riders scoring AFD fuel vouchers for their efforts.

Several new competitors visited the strip for the first time, including Daniel Foreman and Scott Munro both from Queensland. Munro debuted his Mazda RX5 powered by a 20B turbocharged rotary.

"That rotary will be incredible once he (Munro) gets it sorted" said volunteer official Joe Collocott. "Standing on the start line right next to it, you really feel the heat coming out of its (side facing) exhaust".

The Perfect Reaction Challenge remained unclaimed for 2010 with no one able to achieve a perfect 0.400 second reaction.

The Farewell Special is scheduled on Saturday 3 July and will see the return of all competition classes including everything from road registered street cars and bikes all the way up to the fast paced Outlaws.

National competitor, Scott McLean is also rumoured to be returning from his racing on the national ANDRA Pro Series circuit and may be using the night for further testing in his 5 second Top Doorslammer.

Gates will open from 2pm with qualifying underway from 3pm before feature racing kicks off at 7pm.

Farewell Special Saturday 3 July 2010 Gates open 2pm Qualifying 3-6pm Feature Racing from 7pm Spectators $20, children under 15 free. For more information visit http://www.hiddenvalleydrags.com

The HighRPM highlights of the 2010 Supercheap Auto Powercruise in Darwin, Australia. Presented by Tamika Barnett & Auki Henry.
The Australian Powercruise is one of the most publicly recognised events on the local car scene and sees generous turnouts of both enthusiasts and general public as it incorporates many different genre's of motorsports and elements of auto shows.

This year the national organisers were kind enough to let some of the HighRPM media team in to cover the event alongside their official Powercruise media personnel.

Filmed at Hidden Valley Raceway. Special thanks to Powercruise, Film Cartel and Zerolizard for their assistance.

'Killer' Kenny the Stunt Guy | HighRPM Spotlight

Freestyle stunt rider "Killer" Kenny invites us down to watch while he gives a few tips to local riders the day before the Round 4 Race of the TERRA Championship Series.
It was a big Saturday for our media team, just that morning we were invited down by the ADRAD Sprintcar team to film a photo shoot with our presenter Tamika Barnett and Australian motorsports photographer Wade Aunger.

That same afternoon we were lucky enough to get the inside scoop on local Darwin stunt rider 'Killer' Kenny Watkins who was kind enough to let us film him at Hidden Valley during a closed prep session. Ed Forman and Auki Henry went down armed with one of our video cameras, a tripod and a hilux ute to grab some footage of Kenny in action.

We hope to grab more of Kenny in future as there has been a lot of interest shown in the motorsports community to use him for events and public appearances.

Tamika Barnett | Sprintcar Promo Shoot

HighRPM presenter Tamika Barnett does a promo shoot with renowned Australian motorsports photographer Wade Aunger and Trevor Green, driver of the ADRAD Radiators sponsored S#4 Maxim.

Saturday morning at East Point nature reserve in Darwin is usually a quiet affair, the odd couple of people here and there enjoying a peaceful walk.

Any local can tell you its not normally crowded, that was until the Saturday that gorgeous HighRPM presenter Tamika Barnett turned up with the ADRAD Sprintcar team. Of course the crowds concentrated on the area directly around the shoot, and who could blame them with such a high profile local identity making a rather glamorous public appearance.

Like a true professional Tamika took it all in her stride sharing the occasional joke and smile with onlookers. Fellow presenter Auki Henry who also moonlights as media team and amateur cameraman was there to capture this early morning shoot.
